DOING OUR PART,
ONE PAGE AT A TIME
Now more than ever, individuals and companies are recognizing the powerful impact our actions have on the delicate balance between human culture and our environment. The air we breathe, the water we drink and the crucial natural resources we rely on daily are in dire need of conservation.
As the world’s largest manufacturer of synthetic paper, YUPO recognizes the need to sustain these precious resources and the power we have to make a difference.
That’s why we make it our business to operate in an environmentally healthy and sustainable manner.
Recycling and repurposing, eliminating waste and toxins from the manufacturing process and using revolutionary earth friendly materials are just a few examples of how YUPO helps to conserve the earth’s resources and reduce further damage to the environment.
We may be tough on paper, but we’re gentle on the earth, and that commitment remains strong as YUPO continues its quest to find new and innovative ways to reduce our environmental footprint and preserve the world’s ecosystems for generations to come.
CONTINUOUS ENVIRONMENTAL
CONSERVATION, ISO 14001–CERTIFIED
ISO 14001 is a set of international standards, an “environmental management system” for continually improving industrial effects on the environment. Our Kashima factory and R&D Laboratory in Japan have been ISO 14001 certified since March 2000. Both follow local environmental guidelines and continue to reduce the environmental burden through energy conservation, recycling and waste reduction. They also strive to prevent pollution and accidents.
MANUFACTURING WITH THE
ENVIRONMENT IN MIND
RESOURCE SAVINGS
YUPO reprocesses trimmings and scrap to be used in manufacturing.
LIMITING PRODUCTION WASTE
Pallets, cardboard, drums and polysacks are repurposed yearly. Even metal and waste oil are recycled to decrease our impact on the planet.
KEEPING IT CLEAN
- 100% tree-free
- „YUPO“ complies with the RoHS Directive and REACH Regulation SVHC.
- When properly incinerated, no detectable amounts of sulfur, chlorine, nitrogen oxide, dioxin gases or any toxic chemical substances are produced with YUPO products.
- Recipient of the US Waste and Storm Water Quality Platinum Award 5 years in a row.
- Most YUPO products are compatible with polyolefin waste streams.*
- Non-PP based or converted YUPO materials may be compatible with other plastic waste streams and are safe to incinerate.*
*Depending on local regulations.

GIVING BRANDS THE TOOLS TO REACH THEIR SUSTAINABILTITY TARGETS
From packaging to POS applications, our extensive range of synthetic papers offers innovative solutions to many challenges that brand owners are currently facing, oftentimes known as the “3 Rs” – reduce, reuse and recycling of plastics. The following examples are just few ideas on how incorporating YUPO materials can support you when designing sustainable products:
REDUCE
Our synthetic papers are made of a mix of polypropylene, calcium carbonate and additives. Thanks to an industry leading production method YUPO is able to manufacture materials that use less plastic resin than competitive materials without compromising durability, stability or quality.
YUPO also continues to push the envelope: The latest generation of our face stock materials further reduces plastic resin contents by an additional 20% compared to previous generation products.
REUSE
Synthetic papers by YUPO are designed to be tough and resistant, ensuring high product yield and durability. Be it an IML bottle, a high quality brochure or a fully reusable YUPOTako® or YUPOJelly® sticker, YUPO materials are ideal choices for long-lasting products that stay out of the waste stream longer and can be reused many times.
RECYCLE
Subject to local and national regulations, our products can be recycled with conventional plastics recycling streams and are entirely safe to incinerate without releasing any toxic gases.
In the packaging sector in particular, a product’s end of life is an ever present concern that all industry members and consumers share.
As a proud member of the RecyClass platform, YUPO has joined forces with other industry members to work on clear guidelines that help brand owners improve their packaging designs to become more sustainable.
We are excited to share the expertise we have gained over the past 50 years since the inception of YUPO and since joining the RecyClass initiative. We hope to share and promote sustainable decoration techniques, such as IML, to all members of the circular economy.
TAKING ON NEW CHALLENGES
YUPO CORPORATION Group, anticipating the needs of the times and striving to create new value, works to improve the global environment shared by humanity and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society and environment. In all of our activities, we will continue to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
PRODUCTION AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT WITH LESS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
From the early stages of technology and product development, we take safety, the environment and sustainability into consideration.
We are working on the development of products that further reduce the amount of plastics used, utilizing the micro-voids characteristic of “YUPO”, blend a renewable material (biomass resin), and are easy to recycle.
PROMOTION OF
GLOBAL WARMING
COUNTERMEASURES
We promote the reduction of CO2 emissions through more efficient production and improved energy conservation at our production
facilities in a proactive manner.
We are working to reduce energy consumption per unit by improving the production speed and yield.
PROMOTION
OF
RECYCLING
We promote recycling of our products throughout the supply chain and the effective use of post-consumer recycled materials.
We are working on the upcycling of used “YUPO” (recycling into other products) and the use of recycled materials (PCR) in “YUPO”.
PREVENTION OF
ENVIRONMENTAL
POLLUTION
We strive to prevent environmental pollution not only by complying with laws and regulations, but also by observing our own standards established by periodic reviews and continuous improvements.
Through the continuous implementation of PDCA cycles based on ISO 14001, we are striving to maintain “zero” environmental issues.
